Having never used one what is the point of a pump?

Do they actually serve a purpose?
I’m not a donkey but I also am not sitting on a micro penis.

As an ‘Average Joe’ what are the benefits?
 
Guess it's trying to direct the blood flow to the cock. This what gets it from flaccid to hard. So in theory it may help
