Please note: Direction from the Northern Territory Chief Medical Officer has changed frequently from 30th March - 2nd April. Please call SWOP NT on 0447 022 332 to check updates.

All sex work that is not conducted electronically or online is prohibited from 5pm 2nd April. Advertising a service to be provided electronically or online has not been prohibited by this order. https://coronavirus.nt.gov.au/chief-health-officer-directions

In the Northern Territory, all sexual activity with another person in return for payment or reward other than electronic or online sex work is now prohibited. Electronic or online forms of sex work services are understood in our community to be inclusive of, but not limited to, the use of images, video or cam work, GIFs, phone sex and / or other online communication and information technology services. Electronic or online sex work, including virtual sex work appointments for reward and or payment, are permitted.

The Chief Medical Officer states ‘to avoid doubt, these Directions do not prohibit any service or activity provided or conducted electronically or online’. Therefore, using general advertising platforms to seek or advertise online and electronic sexual service work is allowed.

But normal citizens can still hook up on TINDER, Plenty of fish etc etc... JUST as long as payment is not happening... THAT is 100% sexist I would be calling the Human Rights discrimination there.. why can normal citizens hook up for free, but someone it's there job can't..

I would be sending a mail or phone call to someone about this.. that is 100% pathetic. and normal people are more likely to pass on STDs/STis and even this Virus than any person in this industry... Sex workers can tell if someone is sick. ill or even suss with std/stis..

Typical, nobody wants to call a spade a spade, nobody of the officials wants to touch the topic. :banghead:

Its 100% Sexism. Goes against the 100% free market system that is in Australia, and really in these times an escape of sex well can be a welcome one for loads of people of BOTH genders, :) and also it keeps a roof over escorts heads by earning a crust . ITS a win/win/

The NT is always pretty straight forward. If anyone was silly enough to continue working over the last few weeks, definitely the last 2, I'm absolutely amazed. Not only putting their lives at risk but others as well. The domino affect is very real. No matter the directive wasn't exact. The reason they have been so exact in the Territory is so they can now fine people in the industry for not doing the smart thing of ceasing work at any physical level other than internet or phone sex and there are no loop holes.

Phoebe don't start your argumentative stuff with me. This is a serious situation the world is in.
When did I say they are?
No they aren't okay. Anyone meeting up with someone off of them is presently dangerous and utterly foolish. I hope they bring in huge fines for such stupidity.

An escort seeing 1-2 clients every three days in the weeks before this directive doesn't present the large risk to public safety that you seem to characterise it as. Women working under the rules (before this change) were doing so to safeguard their futures. And truly they would have been silly, if they weren't in a territory with zero community transmission, but they (myself included) were in a territory with zero community transmission.

Not all of us had the luxury of a job in the outdoors that we love with minimal human contact. And few in the world had the warning necessary to prepare for six months of unemployment. Some of us just recently paid for our next six months of University study. Some are just a bit silly with money.

Let's not point the finger at a small number of ladies working within loopholes - if any were seeing 5+ clients a night then yes they may present a risk, but I'm going to take a good old fashioned educated guess that most were lucky for a booking a night. Let's not demonize workers for doing their job within the rules.

Maybe focus on the "silly" clients putting their social circles at risk - because I know (only personally) that the only people I was interacting with outside of my very few bookings, were the ladies I work with. When you speak about the domino effect, maybe next reference a state/territory that has community transmission, maybe try NSW :)

Actually it was a huge risk. We would never be given numbers because clients would never tell their family where they got it if they did contract it.

Lot's of ladies put money away for a rainy day and stopped working weeks ago, before there was a directive but when the directive came it was no business which has Human To Human contact (unless essential) is to continue, the fact some thought this is a loop hole is crazy.

Ladies were supposed to cease work but because no-one had actually targeted the sex industry solely in a directive, some continued to work.

I have many friends who works as beauticians, nail technicians and hairdressers. They ceased working a few weeks ago. Common sense prevailed.

The government is financially helping everyone who ceased work because of this.

I'm not demonizing sex workers, I'm against anyone in any industry who can't physically distance themselves for work, who continued to work.
Many many sex workers feel the exact same way as myself.

I understand the industry. I've been involved in it for nearly 30 years.
I advocate for sex workers and the industry, so don't turn this into something it's not.
I also know that this disease kills, elderly, immune compromised, people like myself with lung conditions, people receiving chemo and also perfectly fit people.

Also as for the "Luxury" of working outdoors. It was a choice I made to work outdoors. No luck, no luxury, (it's very physical work, in the heat, which I do enjoy) no handed it,,,I learnt for years , worked hard, became a perfectionist at what I do and built a successful business that I enjoy. You've obviously been discussing my (not Industry) work with your co-workers (any who may have worked in my "outdoors" business will tell you I work hard) and I hope they they filled you in on how I was always all about the ladies and safety when I was in receptionist or management position.

I am definitely in a better position than working with people who come into contact with say 2 people a day, who aren't living together.
Now you say you only have contact with work mates and clients, 4 people working together (not including reception or management who will have their own contacts out of work), 1 intimate liaisons a day per person is 28 close contact "not social distancing" encounters per week. The more people the bigger the amount. The client possibly (and they won't Be honest) seeing privates or other ladies at massage places, perhaps catching up with a mate, people they work with or customers,,, the numbers of potential exposure are growing huge now...a point you seem to have missed.

'sexist' when it isn't based on people's gender in the slightest

🤔 So I wonder how many "Massage" places will open. I can see that the legit adult places will be penalised coming back from this.

So is the 5th of June the date or do adult entertainment venues have to wait longer.
I have discussed this with the police, the NT health department/NT Government & SWOP & at this stage we will be reopening June 5th. However, if anything arises like another outbreak etc that could change. We also have to implement an action plan, but it’s not going to be anything too overly complicated
