First you need to save a gif you like to your phone pictures. Then in the work bar above the message window click on the picture looking icon, a drop-down should appear, click it, then another window appears then select photo library. Choose your saved photo/gif and follow the prompts. When I was trying to figure it out I experimented in some posts.
Photos and gifs can be added the same way. Experiment here, only posts in general threads can be edited afterwards but not in the new member posts, which is annoying.
