How many are actually students?

They mostly get visas as students and have to study 20 hours a week to learn English, most I know of do it...I have heard where they send someone else to do the study part....

Anyone can be a student, you're never too old to learn a new thing. Remember that old lady that went back to uni? Student use to be associated with being a younger person, these days it's more general. I've met ranges from 20s to 60s coming to study english, music and other things in perth. And they all become students.

This happened a lot pre-pandemic but a lot of those 'dodgy' English colleges have now closed. All of the universities here in WA have their own colleges (such as Edith Cowan College) where students who meet the requirements of university entry but still need some tuition in English. As the student is part of the university system, its near impossible to send someone in your place in this case.

People on a student visa are allowed to work 20hrs a week during study semesters and then work full time hours (40hrs a week) during semester breaks. However if the student is studying Agriculture, Nursing, Medicine, Hospitality Management and are working in that field too then they can actually work unlimited hours during study semester and semester breaks. Those students employees have to apply for special dispensation through the Immigration Department for that to happen, so it will only be the legitimate businesses applying for this.

Sure there are some ads that say 'student' as a con, but they can get away with it because it is believable—there are quite a few uni students in the industry. It's a way to make fast money and keep out of poverty, and the flexible hours mean you can fit it round your timetable and take a break for essays and exams. In my final two years at uni I made good money doing odd shifts giving handjobs in an apartment in Northbridge, and I got that work through a girl I met in the uni ref, and we were both born in Australia. More sex workers have tertiary qualifications than women in the general population. And you can bet a lot of them started before they graduated.
