How hard is it to rent a place if you also have 2-3 pets in tow?

I wonder if you find it is harder to rent a place if you either have young kids......
or have a cat or dog or 2 ??

Have you encountered that problem?

I've not had to but friends of mine have found it troublesome at times. I have 3 kids, a BIG dog and 3 mostly outdoor cats. I can guarantee that nobody would rent to me. Simply wouldn't happen. Not anywhere good anyway.

do what i used to do: lie……then give the pets to friends when the rent inspection happens…..
f#*k landlords who don't like pets……….

Not sure about just pets on their own but my sister is an employed Nurse and a divorced mother with three kids and a pet and she pretty much finds it impossible to get rental accommodation. She's had to rent an old farm house about 60km from her hospital because that's as close as she can get.

For renting though, I think the preference is for professional couples around 30+ with no kids or pets and everyone else comes second to that.

As a landlord I don't mind pets or kids etc biggest factor is someone who is stably employed and good references.

Having said that if I get two great applicants and the only difference is one has pets and the other doesn't, I'd go with the one who doesn't.

I have a rental property that I had built a couple of years ago. I had a no pet policy but I was persuaded by a "nice" young professional couple who had a dog that the dog wouldn't be a problem. It was a big problem because they kept it in the house during the day and it used my carpets as a toilet. During house inspection they were told to control the dog and clean the carpets. They controlled if for a while then back to normal. After a year they moved on but even though the carpets have been cleaned they have been permanently damaged. I did give then the full bond back and in hindsight that was a mistake.

No more pets in my rental property.

All you an do is have a quiet friendly word with the owner or agent and see where they stand and if there is any leeway
Far safer than buying the puppy first No matter how good a pet owner we have to remember we are in someone else's house

The rental market is extremely hard
it doesn't matter what extras you have
they don't like couples either in case they brake up and cause dramas
i tried many years ago to find a place for myself my partner and 1 child
about 50 applications later i gave up
IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!!
You will have better luck with private rentals

I would definately suggest NO pets if you are renting.... it is so hard as you would be last on the list of applicants .... then you will also have a mark against you.....

When im looking for housemates those with cats and dogs dont get a look in.
Ive got a turtle in the pond so don't want it killed by dogs....
And cats
Thats just weird....

I really love animals but I have noticed the same problems for friends and family with animals and/or pets. Pity, I would love a Great Dane :)

i think it is hard to find a home owner that is pet friendly cause their worried abt damages to their home but if they have a really big backyard then it should be ok why would u let a big backyard go to waste
