Goodbye, Brother: Hulk Hogan, You Tore the Roof Off the Sky

As a child in primary and high school in the 80’s Hulk Hogan was massive. I saw “Wrestling” for the first time on Wide Workd of Sports on Saturday afternoon , then Wrestlemania was on late one weekend, I got my Dad to tape it. Watching it the next day, seeing the matches, seeing the promos and then seeing Hogan. I was a convert (and so were my mates). We all looked up to him, the training, the prayers, the vitamins, we were all sold. We didn’t realise we were part of a genuine cultural event.

That was the character. The man, Terry Bollea we all found out in later life was a flawed human being, like us all.

I have huge nostalgia for that time, Hogan, Wresteling and how it brought my Dad and I closer (albeit too seldom).

So, for whatever the man, Terry Bollea said or did for me the character lives on.

RIP Brother!
