Credit Card Companies Abandon Backpage.com

Backpage an American company who just bought Cracker from fairfax media are the main offenders in the new war on unsafe sex advertisers.
I was curious as to why they recently lost all their credit card merchant facilities so I searched google and found some interesting stories.
My analysis of the stories is that the Americans got sick of them promoting unsafe sex and sex by illegal immigrants so they approached the banks and the banks went into action.
To purchase an advert now you have to purchase Bit Coins which are a form of money used mainly by drug dealers and tax evaders. It is long winded and complicated if you wish to do so safely as companies like Bitcoin attract a lot of credit card fraud. I found the below links interesting. If the Americans can do something, the Australian government need to do something also. Luckily we do not have the right to freely express in our constitution, so it will be much easier for the Australian authorities to do something about Backpage if they so wish.

Not trying to take your focus away from Backpage.
Bitcoin is not a company. Bitcoin is virtual currency and though drug dealers and tax evaders are known to trade using Bitcoins but then again so to does anyone that prefers to bypass bank's domination . Bitcoins quickly gained popularity and the main focus was to remove currency dependencies away from the biggest (legal) criminals of all - the banks - which worldwide (via a very small elite group of people) totally control the world's population, economy and currencies, living standards, governments. It scared the sh1t out of the banks. I wish I had bought some in their early days.

"In 2014, two alleged victims of child sex trafficking in Massachusetts sued Backpage, claiming that it had assisted in their abuse and exploitation. The alleged victims, who said they were 15 when they began to be trafficked by pimps, said they were sold a combined 1,900 times between the ages of 15 and 17.

Earlier this year, a judge dismissed the suit, noting that the site is protected under the CDA."

Its terrible I agree, but wonder if the authorities really give a damn, after all they appear to get away scott free!
My experience with Gov is that effecting change is like hitting ones head on a brick wall, on the other hand having that sort of apathy is also how they get away with things as there need to be voices exposing it, other wise they keep going!
I hope that we get enough voices to make it change or at least get it out in the open!

Amanda they couldn't win in the courts so they called their friends the banks and in the long run they win. backpage will not survive 12 months using Bitcoins. Sex Industry Workers will find it frustrating using this system and slowly move away. To date they have half the adverts that they used to have, which is why we are seeing so many unsafe sex adverts on this site.
Most of them are the freebies not the paying advertisers.

So glad to see this post. I did some research on Bitcoins as I have never heard of them & was alarmed by what I had read & it appears unless you have a paid ad on cracker (paying to have it bummed up every hour) your ad is so far down the pages I'm talking 15 to 20 pages down this list only to be found in a search. Another sore point it's paid in USD and as for billing discretion that's none existence it shows on CC statement Cracker advertising

There are no free ads on Backpage or Cracker so they all must have been paid for by credit owed or Bitcoin. Based on the hundreds there, someone knows the system apart from us chosen few LOL.

Locanto has free ads.

what about skrill? anyone familiar with these payment processor?
