Art Erotica Pornography

B

BigMike

When Rubens paints nudes engaged in sex acts its art. The karma sutra is erotica and it depicts people in sex acts. Playboy and Penthouse are Pornography yet they do not depict sex acts.

It raises an interesting question as to how each of these are defined. I thend to think of movies as porn and most other things erotica. What do you all think?

I just did a google search on Rubens and the Karma sutra, it came back with very interesting images ...
If you base the art/erotica/porn based on quality of the image then art appears to be oil paintings of some quality, erotica is kinda print based with less colours and porn is pretty much photos :)
I'm also guessing that it's the angle and what you can see determines the what the image is.
Penthouse from what i have seen (i swear i only read the articles) is more a classy look, where as playboy (with it's cute widdle bunny outfits) is more full on ... hmm more reaserch is needed i think.

Moves Hun,

It is an interesting concept I think each person probably has a diffrent perspective on the subject.

I have pondered this very question for the last month or so....
The motive behind what your doing is the key, I think. For instance playboy, does have beautifil women in it in very erotic poses but the intention behind the magazine is to provide pictures for guys to get their rocks off...and forget the story content.

Where as painting is about appreciating the female form in all its glory.

And artist photos can be too!! Yet I'm not sure where the line is drawn...particularly if you put paintings in the right context...This was all there was...they didn't have photography in centuries gone past, so essentially this could be pornographic.

What is the defining feature...perhaps it is up to the individual & their attitudes towards what they are viewing. All in all Respect is important when dealing with these matters.

On this matter what is our hang up about nudity??

artist30: On this matter what is our hang up about nudity??

i don't know about most people but my personal hang up is this ...
clothed i can be seen as the true person i feel i am inside
naked my soul is bare to the world and i am seen as a different person, a conflict of physical and mental.

i'm guessing for other people it's being naked is showing the world they have no flaw's to be ashamed off, they accept how they look and are comfortable with it.
Society has built up an idea that you should be ashamed of the naked body and that covering yourself is considered acceptable in public.

How long has it taken going to the beach to drop from 90% of the body covered to about 10% of the body covered ?

I find this such an intriguing issue.
Clothes can also enhance whats already beautiful, there is mystery...the unknown, the unseen...the individual choosing who sees certain parts of their body
Its funny though...covering less of the body whilst in the sun, whilst it can be very sexy...on a practical level is now very unsafe...due to skin cancers...so will we turn around again.

I have never sunbaked nude or in a bikini, just wasn't my thing, I prefered to swim...and my skin that was covered by a one piece is very soft now..so there are many benefits to covering up as well.

Nudity or not?

Greetings All,
In total nudity We show Our flaws as well as Our assets and it is equalising . Though it can be confronting. . . On Our first visit to L.P.'s both My girl and I were quite naked . louise was admired but My nudity pushed buttons for a few (Mainly males).
Yet for Me a bit of covering is far more erotic . I just love the look of My girl in her G-string bathers down at the beach .
AH ! another aspect it is far more erotic for Me when other people can see her also .
Porn ? ? For So many years required male genitalia and still this gets censored of occasion . Male ejaculate is still an area that is viewed with some distain or as titilation . and finds it's way into many forms of pornography. . .
By the way . . . I love pornography . . . BUT . . .Unfortunately . . . MY pornograph is broken!

To me nothing says sexy than the right peice of fabric drapped over a well shapped body :)
That body shape can vary. As everyone says the mind is the biggest sex organ, it is the thing that says what's erotic, porn or art... censorship has set rules about what the general public considers each ... even though someone may look at a naked ankle and think it's pornographic or someone may look at a full frontal nake person done in Black and white photography and call it art.

Hows this one for consideration then ... the photo of me looking up at the camera, i appear to be naked in the photo, but in reality i am wearing just a black lace g-string. Not that you can see anything because my hands are over my breasts, now is that photo considered art or erotica ? (can't be porn cause no bits are showing)
and if i was to pose the same and remove my hands showing my breasts would that change the status of the image ?
If it did change the status would it be because it was the image of a female ? or i should be saying the perceived image of a female ?

Sadly a lot of us will write off old artists as BORING.

Do your self a favor one day and look at some old art. Rubens is by far my favorite artist I have posted below two of his paintings.

The first depicts a woman as being the sexually dominant. It does not only suggest that the woman is a domme it is very clear she is. I think there is not a lot of things that have not been tried before BDSM is all very old.

The second pic is exactly the reverse the male/s are dominant it is when you take the time to study it a some what brutal painting.

You are left to wonder why we consider some things as being wrong when the paintings are beautiful It would be nice if some other old masters works are posted here.

Its called Acadia by Thomas Eakins painted from a photograph in 1883, his series of Arcadian works declared his commitment to the nude human form as the basis for art and art instruction. To execute this work, Eakins projected photographic images with a magic lantern onto the canvas and incised reference marks into the pigment to guide his brush.
