I'd like to think times have changed a bit. In some respects, they have.
This enforces the view that working privately in your own place, choosing/vetting your clients and working hours is a better bet than a brothel where you can be exploited.

As for drink and drugs, if you have to be drunk or stoned to do your job, then you need to be in another line of work.
